HERRIMAN, Utah (ABC4) — Herriman Police Department have announced that a murder occurred on Friday June 20, when a 22-year-old was shot in the chest.
At around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that shots were fired at a location on Blayde Drive, and they discovered Bridjer Ehlers, 22, with a gunshot wound to the chest. They began life-saving measures, but Ehlers died from his injuries.
Alexander Okustino Finau, 18, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Reportedly, he was visiting Ehlers and handling a firearm. Police say that he pointed the firearm in Ehlers’ direction and discharged the weapon, which struck Ehlers.
Police believe that this was caused by “inappropriate handling of a firearm.” They urged everyone who owns weapons to handle them with caution and care.
Police said that as this is an ongoing investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.
