MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 16-year-old boy allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting was shot by an accomplice, according to the Monroe Police Department.
Around 11:25 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a shooting on the 600 block of Skywatch Lane in Monroe. It was determined that the vehicle stopped on Skywatch Lane, and multiple people got out of the vehicle and started shooting into two homes.
No one inside those homes were hurt during the shooting, officials said.
Less than 15 minutes later, just before 11:40 p.m., officers responded to a hospital for a report about a 16-year-old with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The teen was later airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, where he is in stable condition.
After investigating both incidents, detectives believe an accomplice of the 16-year-old unintentionally shot him during the drive-by shooting on Skywatch Lane.
Police said this is still an active investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Monroe Police Department at 704-282-4700 or Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600.
