Two Idaho teens go missing, believed to be taken by members of the FLDS church

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Idaho (ABC4) — An Idaho mother believes her children who went missing Sunday were taken by members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after “recent revelations” from Warren Jeffs put the children in danger.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Allen Larand Fisher, 13, and Rachelle Leray Fischer, 15, were reported missing out of Monteview, Idaho Sunday. Police believe the teens are returning to Trenton, Utah where they lived previously due to “religious beliefs.”

“Somebody stopped by and took them,” the children’s mother, Elizabeth Roundy, told ABC4.

Roundy’s history with the FLDS Church

Roundy left the FLDS church just over five years ago. Now she believes her children were taken by older siblings, who are still active members of the faith, to fulfill a prophecy given by President of the church, Warren Jeffs.

Elintra Dee Fischer, 18, an older sibling of Rachelle and Allen, was reported missing on Jan. 1, 2023 and has yet to be located. Roundy believes the children left with Elintra to fulfill their religious obligations.

“They [were] willing to go because they think that it’s their salvation,” Roundy told ABC4.

The children’s mother alleges that her children were abducted following a revelation claimed to have been received by Warren Jeffs, the President of the FLDS Church, in August of 2022. The revelation speaks of a time when its followers will “prepare themselves and their children to either be translated or Celestial[y] resurrected.”

Roundy claims she was separated from her kids by leaders of the Church in 2014 as part of her “repentance” following a miscarriage. She says she was apart from her children for over five years before being able to return to them.

After returning, Roundy says she began hearing stories of inappropriate practical jokes played on her kids while she was away. “I was worried sick about my children the whole time I was gone. I didn’t know whether they were being taken care of or loved.”

“I know that they’ve been brainwashed to think that I’m a bad person,” Roundy said.

The two juveniles were last seen wearing traditional FLDS clothing. Rachelle was reportedly last wearing a dark green prairie dress, while Allen was seen wearing a light blue shirt with jeans and black slip-on shoes before the alleged abduction.

Recent FLDS “revelations”

Holding out HELP, an organization dedicated to helping survivors of polygamy, believes the children may have been abducted as part of a revelation to members of the FLDS faith to prepare for the end of times by returning their children to the church in order to become “pure” and “translated beings.”

“The revelations say that within five years, the children will be translated to heaven. But the problem is… you have to die first,” Roger Hoole, an attorney involved in multiple FLDS cases, said.

Roundy says she fears what could be done to her kids in light of Jeffs’ revelations and direction to the church. “It’s just so erratic what they’re being told to do. You never know what they’re going to be told to do,” Roundy added.

Jeffs was found guilty of sexual assault of a child and sentenced to life in prison in 2011. At the time of his conviction, Jeffs had 24 wives that were underage.

Despite serving a life sentence in a Texas state prison, Jeffs is believed to still run the church from behind bars.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about these missing juveniles contact their dispatch center at 208-745-9210, option 7.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
