
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — An Illinois man was arrested Sunday after allegedly being chased by Kentucky State Police.
According to a news release, Kentucky State Police were responding to a collision with a possible injury on Interstate 65 near mile marker 30.
Police said while headed to the scene, another call came that 22-year-old Christian Smith of Flossmoor, Illinois.
He was allegedly involved in a wreck and later carjacked a black Subaru Forester to drive from the scene, according to the release.
Kentucky State Police said Smith was later seen north on US 31 West, but he allegedly ignored the stop and continued until he stopped on the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 65 in Park City.
Smith was charged with:
- Speeding (20 MPH over the speed limit)
- Reckless driving
- First-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle)
- Leaving the scene of an accident—failure to render aid or assistance
- Carjacking (attempt)
- TBUT (over $10,000 but less than $1,000,000)
- Two counts of first-degree criminal mischief
- Resisting arrest
- DUI
- Fourth-degree assault
He was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.
Smith is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
