CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago police are searching for the driver who fatally struck a man near a North Side park along Lake Shore Drive early Saturday morning.
Chicago police said the incident unfolded just after 3:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of North Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable Lake Shore Drive, in Lakeview.
Chicago police say the victim, a 26-year-old man, was hit by a northbound car that did not stop after the crash.
The man was later found unresponsive near the roadway and was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim killed and it is unclear what kind of car was involved in the crash.
“It’s unsettling to think that something like that would happen right here,” Vesna Grujin said.
Grujin, who has lived in the area for more than two decades, was surprised to learn the deadly hit-and-run occurred close to her condo.
“People walk by here all the time with dogs and kids. Just to see that, to know that this could happen, it makes you wonder what could be better,” Grujin said. “Maybe higher guardrails, maybe more clear marking.”
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the CPD Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521 or dial 911.
