OMAHA, Neb. – LSU head coach Jay Johnson believes that Kade Anderson should be the number one overall selection when the MLB Draft rolls around on July 13th.
That belief was expressed after Anderson’s stellar outing in the LSU Tigers’ 1-0 game one victory over Coastal Carolina in the College World Series finals.
“He’s the best pitcher in college baseball,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson.
The former St. Paul’s star struck out ten Chanticleers in a complete-game shutout and only surrendered three hits in Saturday’s win.
In two starts at the College World Series, Anderson allowed just six hits and one earned run in 16 innings of action with 17 strikeouts.
“I mean, we had the best pitcher on the planet two years ago in a similar situation. I felt like Kade had a very similar season to that, and that’s how you get here. I’m really proud of him. And I think the commonality between the two is the person, the character, the toughness, the team-first attitude. And you’re probably right. I mean, his next pitch should be for someplace in the Washington Nationals organization. It’s not close, and they usually draft really well,” added Johnson.
He entered the postseason a potential top-ten pick, but his draft stock is expected to rise after a sophomore campaign he will never forget.
Anderson finished the season with a 12-1 record in 19 appearances with a 3.18 ERA and the most strikeouts in all of college baseball with 180.
The 2025 MLB Draft is set for July 13.
