WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Residents from across Washington County and southwest Utah have come together to support crews battling the Forsyth Fire in Pine Valley.
Crews have been battling the Forsyth Fire since Thursday night when it began, with the fire at 1,640 acres and zero percent containment. Over 150 firefighters from surrounding states have arrived to fight the fire along with crews based in Utah.
The response has been great not only from firefighters but from residents and community members bringing donations to those fighting the fire. Many people have shown up to the Central Fire Station to bring items such as water, pizza and snacks.
At one point, volunteers were asking people to slow down and pause donations due to the sheer number of people and items arriving. But people continue to show up, including those who have been directly impacted by the fire.
“It’s really sobering because we’ve had people come to the station who have lost their homes, in tears, and they come and bring things for the firefighters,” said Lenae Peavey, a volunteer with Central EMT. “They’ve brought food and they’ve been in tears. And they brought things to thank them for coming to their town and taking care of them.
