BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — June 20, 2025 — With dangerously high temperatures expected across the region, Monroe County emergency officials have announced the locations of public cooling stations open from Friday,
The cooling stations will provide a temporary respite from the heat during daytime hours, but are not equipped for overnight stays, meals, or showers. Local officials urge residents to use these facilities to avoid heat-related illnesses, especially those without access to air conditioning.
Cooling Station Hours and Locations
Open Daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.:
*Note: Pets are allowed at Stations 21 and 29 but must be secured in a kennel or carrier.
Library Locations Serving as Cooling Stations:
Officials emphasize that while these locations are available for cooling down during the hottest parts of the day, they are not a substitute for overnight shelters. Individuals in need of overnight accommodations should seek out local shelter services.
Authorities also ask the public to follow the posted rules at each location and avoid entering restricted areas.
