(KRON) — The victim of a fatal, single-car crash was found dead Friday, roughly 300 feet from where the vehicle came to rest on a private property in Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver is thought to have crashed the Dodge Ram before sunset on Thursday near Franz Valley Road, south of Spencer Lane, CHP said. Officers with CHP’s Santa Rosa office responded to the crash Friday morning at 9:33 a.m., and were initially unable to find the driver.

“A Dodge Ram was found damaged but unoccupied,” CHP said. “The driver, a tenant on the property, was later located deceased approximately 300 feet from the vehicle.”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, CHP officers suspect the driver was thrown from the vehicle.

“The driver was ejected after losing control of the vehicle, which continued down a hill before crashing into a fence and tree,” CHP said.

The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
