(KRON) — A man and a minor were arrested near a graduation ceremony in Vallejo on June 13, after Vallejo Police Department officers allegedly found them in possession of illegally-obtained guns.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Nebraska Street after witnesses told police they saw a person carrying a gun near the graduation. Officers working at the ceremony rounded up six suspects in the area and patted them down, Vallejo PD said.

“During a pat-down, officers discovered a loaded firearm in one suspect’s waistband,” Vallejo PD said. “They also recovered a loaded, unserialized firearm from the second suspect’s backpack.”

The gun found in the adult suspect’s waistband was stolen out of Yuba County, Vallejo PD said. The man was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail.

The suspect with a ghost gun in their backpack was determined to be a minor. Officers contacted the minor’s parent and the child was booked into the Solano County Juvenile Detention Facility.

“This incident underscores the importance of community awareness and our officers’ quick response to keep large gatherings safe,” Vallejo PD said. “Graduations are milestones for students, families, and our city. These moments deserve to be celebrated without disruption.”
