According to the website, MagicBlock introduces a model called ephemeral rollups, which temporarily shifts certain processes to a separate environment. This setup is intended to support features like low-latency execution and gasless transactions. Programs remain compatible with Solana’s main network, so updates made to Solana can still apply without needing to make major changes. Developers can continue using familiar tools and languages, while a routing system directs activity between the main network and the rollup environment. MagicBlock is currently being used in areas such as trading platforms, online games, real-time messaging, and live pricing tools.

MagicBlock is founded by Andrea Fortugno and Gabriele Picco. Andrea previously worked at Provable Things, a company geared towards helping smart contracts connect to real-world data, where he contributed to the growth of the cross-chain liquidity protocol pNetwork. Gabriele brings a background in AI and research engineering from IBM, where he worked on zero-shot and few-shot learning models as part of the AI for Accelerated Discovery initiative. The co-founders began developing MagicBlock to address scalability issues in onchain gaming and have since expanded its scope to broader high-performance use cases.
