LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — A 6-year-old girl is in critical condition at a Louisville hospital after her mom allegedly attacked her early Thursday morning.
An arrest citation alleged that, at 12:49 a.m., the police were called to the 2900 block of Wilson Avenue, where a 6-year-old was said to have been hit on the head with a hammer by her mom.
At the scene, the Louisville Metro Police Department said the girl was found inside the home and taken to Norton Children’s Hospital, where she is being treated for multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds.
During an interview with the police, the mom, Zeinab Abdi, 40, admitted to frequently becoming extremely angry and having trouble controlling herself, according to the citation.
Abdi allegedly told the police that on Thursday, she became overly angry and hit her daughter “an unknown amount of times” with a hammer.
LMPD said they interviewed Abdi’s son, who was said to be restraining her after the attack. He told the police that she said, “Let me finish her,” while struggling against him.
Abdi was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, where she has been charged with attempted murder—domestic violence.
Court records show she is being held on a $25,000 cash bond and is due to appear in court Friday morning.
