CHICAGO – Firefighters with the Chicago Fire Department are currently battling an apartment fire on the city’s Northwest Side.
The scene is located in the 5100 block of Kimball Avenue.
SkyCam 9 flew over the scene and saw heavy smoke and flames coming from what appears to be an apartment building.
CFD said no injuries have been reported, but added the fire is threatening another building and that firefighters are actively working to protect that building.
One resident who lives three buildings down described what he saw as he left his home.
“I was about to go to the gym after work and I left my home and I was thinking, ‘Oh, why are there a lot of firefighter cars around here? And my car was blocked by a police officer’s car,'” area resident Tony said. “I truly believe the firefighters are doing a great job….they are risking their lives every day [to help] others.”
