KERMAN, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – If you’ve driven through Kerman, you may have seen some new businesses slowly starting to open up!
On Wednesday, Chipotle on Whitesbridge Avenue officially opened, but there are many more ribbon cuttings to go.
“Retail follows rooftops,” Kerman’s City Manager John Jansons said.
With a population of more than 17,000 and counting, Jansons says that in the past four years, about 400 new homes have been built.
“We have more in the pipeline, but it’s those new families that demand services and restaurants,” he said.
This year, five new businesses have already opened. Dutch Bros, the Surf Thru Express Car Wash, and an urgent care, all of Whitesbridge.
“The urgent care is interesting because we have a United Health Care facility here in Kerman, but they’re busting at the seams,” Jansons explained.
Just down the street, Chipotle and Starbucks are now open at The Commons at Kerman Plaza.
“Kerman is just a great city to build in, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said Shay Bakman, Vice President of Sunnyside Investment.
The developer of The Commons, Bakman, says his family has been contributing to Kerman’s development for decades.
“Kerman has done everything right to be able to allow for this type of growth,” he added.
A Baskin-Robbins is also in the works at the complex, with vacant spaces next door ready to be filled.
“We’re talking to different tenants right now and just making sure we get the right fit for the center,” Bakman said.
While all these new spots have generated excitement among residents, Janson says they have also created several hundred new jobs in Kerman.
“We have both office and industrial development in mind as well,” he said.
Here’s what to expect next: The Surf Thru Express Car Wash will have its official grand opening on June 26. Additionally, a San Francisco Sourdough, located adjacent to the car wash, is also set to open soon.
