WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Wayne County man has been accused of attempted murder for allegedly firing a gun near his family and neighbors while intoxicated on Wednesday.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that around 10 p.m., deputies were called to a home on KY Highway 776 after multiple shots were fired.
At the scene, deputies said they cleared the surrounding homes and found that the family of Garry Maziarz, 46, was safe. Then, a perimeter was set up around the home before officials asked Maziarz to come out.
After numerous attempts to get him to leave failed, authorities forced their way in, where Maziarz was reportedly found “very intoxicated,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said he allegedly resisted arrest before he was tased and taken into custody. Several guns were found in the home, including one being placed under a child’s bed upstairs.
Authorities said multiple bullet holes were found in an outside wall of a neighbor’s home, and one was found on their front porch within a couple of feet of where the neighbor was reportedly standing.
Maziarz was booked into the Wayne County Detention Center, where he was charged with attempted murder and first-degree wanton endangerment. He’s being held on a $100,000 cash bond or a double property value bond.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be pending.
