SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Attention amateur to professional cooks, Slow Food of North Louisiana is hosting a ‘Summer Soup Cook-Off.’
According to Slow Food of North Louisiana, the summer soup competition is a “friendly soup cook-off” where participants submit their best garden soup to win a prize and be crowned by food professionals and fan favorites.
“Think tomato-basil, cold cucumber, or vichyssoise. Or make a garden dump soup if you have an exploding summer garden!”
Registration is encouraged. Any cook participating in the competition is eligible to attend the event at no charge. The deadline is Thursday, July 19. Chefs are asked to make “approximately 2 gallons of soup, i.e., the capacity of a large 6-8 quart Crock Pot.”
They note to be “Slow Food minded” with your soup, ‘use local and seasonal ingredients if possible,’ and you can enter more than one soup.
Get your spoons ready for July 20, from 5 -7 p.m. at Marilynn’s Place, 4041 Fern Avenue, Shreveport.
According to their registration form, participants are encouraged to arrive between 4:10 and 4:30 pm so that Slow Foods can label the soup before attendees arrive. They note attendees are expected to serve themselves.
Slow Food says that advance ticket sales for this event end on July 19. For updates, follow Slow Food via their social media.
