(KRON) — A local burger restaurant is closing after more than a decade in business in San Francisco. WesBurger is shutting its doors for good in July, the business announced in a lengthy Instagram post this week.

The restaurant started as a pop-up in 2013. The WesBurger brick-and-mortar location opened in 2016, according to Mission Local.

WesBurger is closing after nearly a decade on 18th and Mission streets. Its last day is on Tuesday, July 15.

WesBurger did not cite a specific reason for the closure but did call it unfortunate.

“Unfortunately, some things, even the ones with queso, need to come to an end,” WesBurger said.

Comments on the closure have saddened some of WesBurger’s most loyal patrons. “You served the greatest burgers in all of San Francisco in my opinion. Tough tears while I type this,” one comment wrote on WesBurger’s farewell post. “The city won’t be the same.”

WesBurger began as a pop-up “on a whim” after it won the inaugural SF Burger Brawl, according to the restaurant’s social media.

“I want to thank everyone who has ever supported WesBurger, whether back in the early pop-up days, eating one of our many specials, visiting The Den, coming in late night, or just being one of our many fantastic regulars,” the burger spot wrote.

Restaurant Reality Company is handling the sale of WesBurger. No other details were made public about the sale of WesBurger.

“Our last day will be July 15th. Now’s the time to come in, in person and have a last burger or five,” WesBurger’s post reads. “Don’t let your last burger be through Uber Eats. You know tater tots are best served fresh.”
