ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon is set to be held in Rockford on Sunday, June 22nd.
The IRONMAN 70.3 competitors will meet near the Rock Guardian statues to begin their grueling competition, which will begin with a 1.2-mile swim in the Rock River.
The swimming part of the race will be followed by a 56-mile cycle race, finished with a 13.1-mile marathon through the city.
Road closures will begin prior to 4 a.m., with the event kicking off at 7 a.m.
According to the City of Rockford, the Triathlon will begin with the swim, beginning at the Rockmen along the Rock River Rec Path, and will travel to the transition area at Davis Park. The bike portion will follow State St. west to Pierpont Ave. to Auburn St. into portions of Winnebago County, Rockton, and back to Davis Park. Please be advised that the traffic control lights along this portion will be flashing red. The run portion will go through downtown Rockford, along both sides of the river, finishing on the 100 block of S. Main St.
