Man beaten, shot during overnight robbery attempt on West Side

CHICAGO — A man is recovering in the hospital after he was violently beaten and shot during a robbery attempt on the city’s West Side overnight.

Chicago police say the incident unfolded just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in an alley in the 3400 block of West Jackson Boulevard in Garfield Park.

According to police, the victim, a 48-year-old man, was standing in the alley when an unknown male offender, who was armed with a gun, approached and demanded property from him.

Officers said things became violent after the victim refused and the thief put down his gun, picked up a bat, and began beating the man.

After beating him with the bat, officers said the thief picked up his gun and shot the man in each leg.

Following the violent attack, the suspect fled the scene while the victim was taken to the hospital in fair condition.

Officers say no arrests have been made in connection with the incident and an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact CPD Area Four Detectives at 312-746-8251 or dial 911.
