IFD extinguishes storm-related house fire on near southwest side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a house fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post from IFD, around 4:45 p.m., crews responded to a residence fire in the 1400 block of South Moreland Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found heavy flames showing from the rear of the home.

IFD — with assistance from the Decatur Township Fire Department — was able to get the fire under control in 20 minutes. No one was home when the fire broke out, according to IFD.

Investigators believe that the cause of the fire is electrical and storm-related, as falling tree limbs knocked down nearby power lines.
