PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — All evacuation levels for the Rowena Fire have been lifted in Wasco County, authorities announced.
The fire began last week and has destroyed 56 homes and 91 other structures, but no reported deaths, according to the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office in an update this past Saturday.
On Thursday at noon, the sheriff’s office announced all evacuation levels were lifted, according to their Facebook page.
After the fire started on June 11 and burned for more than a week, the final count was 3,700 acres burned, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry in an update on Thursday. The fire is currently at 91% contained, with management of the fire being transitioned to a local fire team. There remains a temporary flight restriction in place up to 6500 feet above the area of the fire until at least 6 p.m..
The Red Cross shelter at The Dalles Middle School also closed earlier on Thursday. However, the Mid-Columbia Community Action Council will open a pallet shelter on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Gloria Center, the sheriff’s office said.
