CHESTERTON, Ind. — A suspect was shot and killed and a Chesterton officer was wounded following an incident Wednesday morning outside of a hotel.
Police were dispatched to Hilton Garden Hotel, located in the 500 block of Gateway Boulevard, just after 8:05 a.m. on the report of a suspicious male at the hotel.
During a press conference, Indiana State Police said the male suspect was killed following an exchange of gunfire with two Chesterton officers.
One of the officers, a 33-year-old man with five years of experience, was shot. He was transported to a hospital in Illinois and his prognosis is “good,” according to Chesterton’s police chief.
SkyCam9 and our crew observed several shell casings in the street and the suspect’s body under a sheet at the scene.
Indiana State Police is leading the investigation and did not give much additional information during the news conference.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
