TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, warm and humid with clusters of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 68.
A noticeably cloudier, more active weather day is on tap Wednesday along with cooler, but continued humid conditions.
Much of the Chicagoland area is in a level 2 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms, with portions of northwest Indiana in a heighted level 3 of 5 risk.
The greatest risk for any severe thunderstorms is damaging straight-line winds and large hail in excess of 1.00” in diameter, but a rather higher than usual 5% risk for isolated tornadoes is also possible in any severe thunderstorm, especially for northwest Indiana.
Model simulation shows a period of active thunderstorms moving in around lunchtime and continuing into Wednesday evening before ending.
Potential exists for locally heavy downpours in any thunderstorm that does occur. While not everyone will see impressive rainfall totals, there is the potential for several locations to receive totals in excess of 2”.
No repeat of Tuesday’s 90s, extensive cloud cover and clusters of thunderstorms promises to bring a much cooler day.
