2 Bay Area pizzerias mentioned as ‘must-visits’: report

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – If you are looking for a spot to get a savory pizza or just a slice, Food & Wine says two Bay Area pizzerias are a must-visit. 

The food magazine selected 10 pizza shops across the nation. Of course, the first six entries were East Coast and Midwest-based, with the usual suspects: New York City, Connecticut, Detroit and Chicago. 

Outta Sight Pizza ranked in eighth place. Food & Wine says the San Francisco pizza shop has “Grandma-style pizzas [that] are often experimental, with toppings like peking duck and chicken tikka masala.”

Birthed in the pandemic, Outta Sight Pizza began as a pop-up shop. The pizzeria now has two locations, one in the Tenderloin neighborhood and the other in Chinatown. 

On the other side of the Bay Bridge is the ninth must-visit pizza shop, Rose Pizzeria. Food & Wine calls Rose Pizzeria a “darling” cafe and mentions its rose garden. Patrons can dine in or eat at the establishment’s outdoor patio. 

Per the Downtown Berkeley pizza shop’s menu, the slices are cooked slightly charred. F&W said the slices have a “crunchy, original style that lands somewhere between Naples and NYC.” One of its tasty creations is the “Old Faithful,” which has fennel pork sausage, goat horn peppers, green onion, mozzarella, pecorino and tomato sauce.

“We try to make the best pizza we can using thoughtful ingredients, inspired by old school flavors that make you smile,” said Rose Pizzeria on its website.

Last year, Rose Pizzeria was also recognized by the New York Times as one of the best pizza places. 

Both entries were after the only other California pizzeria on the list, Quarter Sheets in Los Angeles.
