RIVERTON, Utah (ABC4) — An 18-year-old from Riverton was killed following an accidental shooting by his father, according to police.
According to Josh Lee, Riverton City director of communications, police and first responders were contacted around 3 p.m. on reports of a shooting. A 46-year-old father reportedly shot his 18-year-old son with a Glock 9mm at their residence near Kessler Drive in Riverton.
Medical responded quickly and transported him to the hospital, but the 18-year-old was pronounced dead. Police said that the incident was described as “accidental” and that is how they are handling the case at this time.
Investigators will still follow standard protocol and ensure they have all the details of the incident. The 46-year-old man is currently cooperating with police and is at the station for questioning.
