VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 13-year-old was taken into custody after police say he was spotted driving a dirt bike “recklessly” in Visalia on Tuesday.

At around 2:30 p.m., a member of the Visalia Police HOPE Team saw a 13-year-old on a dirt bike driving recklessly near Lovers Lane and Norman Avenue.

Once the rider saw the officer, police said he started doing wheelies and driving erratically to get a reaction from law enforcement.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the rider refused to comply and continued driving the dirt bike “recklessly.”

A pursuit followed, and it ended near St. Johns Parkway and McAuliff Street, where the dirt bike eventually broke down.

Further investigation revealed that the teen had been involved in a similar reckless riding incident earlier that day on a school campus, where he also tried engaging with another officer.

No injuries or property damage occurred during the pursuit. The 13-year-old was taken into custody without incident.
