LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Texas man was arrested after police discovered over $2 million worth of cocaine in his car after a traffic stop in Lafayette, authorities said.
Sergio Gracia, 52, of Cypress, Texas is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Officers with the Lafayette Police Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near the I-49 interchange at mile marker 103A at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Following a brief interview with the driver and an alert by a K-9 officer, a search of the vehicle was performed, officials said. Officers discovered 18 packages containing a total of 21,063 grams (46.43 lbs.) of cocaine hydrochloride, with an estimated street value of $2,106,300, police said.
Gracia is being held at the Lafayette Parish jail on a $5 million bond.
