Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in south Abilene crash

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A motorcyclist died and his passenger was critically injured in a crash involving a pickup truck Monday night in South Abilene, police said.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. at the intersection of South Treadaway Boulevard and Butternut Street. According to preliminary reports, a Honda GL 500 motorcycle was traveling south on Treadaway when it collided with a northbound Dodge pickup turning onto Butternut.

The motorcyclist, identified as Skyler Fowler, 20, of Abilene, was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. According to APD, the next of kin have been notified.

A 20-year-old woman riding as a passenger on the motorcycle was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup and a passenger in that vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating. Investigators said speed and lighting may have contributed to the crash. APD added that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet; it is unclear whether the passenger was.
