CHICAGO — The James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards are Monday night at the prestigious Lyric Opera of Chicago on Wacker Drive.
The award ceremony is one of the industry’s most celebrated events, honoring talent and innovation amongst chefs and restaurants from around the country.
A few local restaurants and chefs are also nominated for some of the awards. Galit, a Middle Eastern eatery on North Lincoln Avenue, is nominated for Outstanding Restaurant.
The following Chicago-based chefs are vying for Best Chef: Great Lakes, including:
Kumiko, located on West Lake Street, is known for its creative cocktails and craft drinks. It’s in the running for Outstanding Bar.
“It’s such an honor to be here,” Julia Momose, owner of Kumiko, said. “When I first moved to Chicago, I was struck by how hardworking everyone is. It felt like a city where I could really dig in and do something that matters. The James Beard Awards recognizes that.”
The black-tie event kicked off at 6 p.m. and is followed by a reception at Union Station.
