
MONDAY: A sun/cloud mix, warmer and more humid. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may impact 30% of the metro area at any given time. High: 86, but only middle 70s near the lake.
Tuesday promises to be another very warm and increasingly humid day. A fair amount of sunshine and some mixed clouds will prevail through midday, but more extensive cloud coverage fills in during the afternoon as scattered potentially active thunderstorms develop.
Temperatures are likely to make a run towards 90 degrees before scattered thunderstorms “mix down” cooler air for locations lucky enough to see meaningful rainfall.
Our in-house model shows how thunderstorms may “blossom” as the afternoon progresses, fueled by the near 90-degree warmth and moderately humid atmosphere.
Much of Chicagoland sits in a level 1 of 5 or marginal risk of seeing a strong or severe thunderstorm. The biggest threats would be gusty winds and isolated large hail.
