Chicagoland had a pleasant Sunday forecast, with mostly sunny skies and seasonal temperatures. But if you’re eager for some summer heat and humidity, it’s coming this week, with multiple 90-degree days possible.
Highs on Monday will be into the mid 80s with partly cloudy skies. Humidity will ramp up by the late afternoon.
With that will come a big rise in heat and humidity, as the cool to seasonal conditions we’ve seen around Chicagoland lately yield to hot and humid conditions this week, with highs around 90 possible by Tuesday — along with the potential for strong to severe storms late Tuesday into Wednesday.
And we could see more 90-degree temps later in the week and into the weekend, too. See below for more details.

Looking Ahead
Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to be the hottest days this week, with temps on both days flirting with a muggy 90 degrees.
Thursday is projected to be a little cooler, in the low to mid-80s, then the Summer Solstice on Friday will bring temps back closer to 90, with the heat projected to continue into next weekend.
Chicago’s precipitation chances
Following a quiet Father’s Day weekend, the returning warmth and humidity will bring a far more active weather pattern this week.
We’re tracking multiple impulses that could bring periodic storm chances at times during much of this week, interspersed with many dry periods.
Dew point forecast (measure of atmospheric moisture)
A far more humid period is on tap this week. When the dew point gets above 60 degrees, it starts to feel humid. This is expected multiple times over the coming week.
Severe weather?
Portions of northern Illinois are currently being outlooked for possible severe weather during the Wednesday through Thursday timeframe. But this forecast is more of a heads-up and will be refined in the coming days.
Total rainfall forecast: Next 7 days
Thunderstorms can bring drenching downpours in select areas where they hit.
While much of the Chicago area could see totals in excess of 1 inch when each individual storm cluster is tallied, it’s likely that some areas will see much more. Specifically, torrential rainfall is possible for portions of Iowa, Minnesota and western Wisconsin, where totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible.
Chicago forecast highs and departures from normal
The hottest of the next few days is projected to be Tuesday.
