(KRON) — An unknown number of fake parking tickets were left on cars parked near the beach in Santa Cruz on June 15, the Santa Cruz Police Department announced in a warning to the public.
The tickets, pictured in the provided photo, are a scam, the Santa Cruz Police Department said.
“If you’ve recently received a parking ticket, review the fine print,” Santa Cruz PD recently warned. “The scam citations used a QR Code to direct potential victims to a website for payment.”
Any possible victims of the scam are asked to contact the City of Santa Cruz Parking Office or report any fake tickets to the Santa Cruz Police Investigations Unit. Santa Cruz PD is unsure how many people were affected by the scam.
In 2022, a suspect was arrested for allegedly leaving fake tickets on cars in Santa Cruz. Anyone with doubts about the validity of their parking ticket is call the City of Santa Cruz Parking Office at 831-420-6100.
