Bodycam video shows Kentucky state trooper named in 2nd lawsuit repeatedly tasing man

HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Kentucky State Police trooper faces a second lawsuit for using excessive force.

The Louisville FOX affiliate WDRB obtained the bodycam video from the Hardin County arrest. It shows the repeated tasing of Dawson Blevins, who was riding in a car that was pulled over because of a seat belt violation in June 2024.

Trooper James Cameron Wright was told by the driver that there was likely a “roach” of marijuana in the car. Moments later, he asked the passenger, Blevins, to exit the vehicle.

The video detailed what allegedly happened next.

Blevins told the trooper he was going to record the encounter on his phone while the trooper was trying to detain him. Wright told him he was under arrest, and the video shows him being thrown to the ground.

Wright then tased him from around 10 feet away, and Blevins fell to the ground. The video shows Blevins being tased multiple times and threatened to be “lit up” if he didn’t comply.

After several tasings, Wright could be seen spraying mace in Blevins’ eyes and then handcuffing him. Blevins subsequently left the scene in an ambulance. 

He ended up spending four months in jail for resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, among other charges. But all charges against him were dismissed earlier in June 2025.

The lawsuit Wright is named in accuses him of making multiple false statements in the arrest report to justify his use of force.

Wright was indicted earlier in 2025 by a federal grand jury in Louisville for beating and tasing multiple people from 2020 to 2024.
