The efforts of Disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 30 in Baxter County to battle the high rate of veteran suicide has led to the group being recognized at the state level for their accomplishments.
On June 7 the auxiliary was named the ‘Arkansas Auxiliary Unit of Excellence’ as well as receiving recognition for ‘Community Service’ and ‘Legislative Action in support of Veterans’ at the 2025 State Convention of Disabled American Veterans and their Auxiliaries in Little Rock.
Dan Hall who serves as Commander of the Auxiliary and has also served in many community roles through the years says although the group may be small they have been frontrunners nationwide in tackling this tragic issue with veterans.

The annual veterans picnic which has been held for 20 years in Baxter County started with less than 100 has seen growth and more community support year over year.

Through outreach programs like the picnic, the county has seen a 75 percent drop in veteran suicide. Commander Hall says one suicide is still unacceptable and they continue to reach out the isolated veterans around the area as they work to improve the county that once had one of the worst ratings in the state. Hall shares an analogy from a past picnic presenter that he says sums up how a little help can make a big impact.

The auxiliary hopes to use the recognition from the award to get the word out about how easy it is for people in the community to join and support local veterans. Membership is available to anyone that has a family member, even distant, that has served in the United States military.
