HAMMOND, Ind. — A person is dead after a police chase ended in a fiery crash along Interstate 80/94 in Hammond overnight.
According to Indiana State Police, it all began just after midnight after officers with the Munster Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the driver allegedly refused to stop.
Troopers say as the driver continued to evade officers, they eventually attempted to get onto I-80/94 and crashed near the Cline Avenue exit.
Following the crash, troopers said the vehicle burst into flames.
The driver of the vehicle involved was killed in the crash.
Authorities have not identified the driver killed and they were the only person involved in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is underway by Indiana State Police.
