HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Spartanburg businessman and his wife have been identified as the victims of a Saturday afternoon plane crash near the Horry County state line.

Philip Porter, 69, and his wife Cheryle, 66, were killed when a twin-engine Beechcraft went down near Old Dothan Road in Tabor City, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol told News13 on Monday. The flight was scheduled to land at Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach.

Flight records show that the aircraft was traveling about 250 mph when it plunged into a wooded area. Porter has been certified to fly since 2013, according to FAA data.
