BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Fathers on a Mission, also known as F.O.A.M., held their annual Father’s Day event, but with a new twist. This year, the focus shifted to soon-to-be fathers.
Being a dad is not easy. Especially for new dads. It’s something Coldman Johnson is very familiar with.
“Just paying attention to detail, being more relevant in the life of my kids, and my sons. It doesn’t take a lot to do much, and there is stuff that we do, do,” said Johnson.
Johnson is a new father to not one, not two, but four kids, and he appreciates F.O.A.M. for shifting the focus to new dads this Father’s Day.
F.O.A.M. Executive Director Levar Robinson said it’s all about giving families tools they might not know exist.
“We hope that this event equips fathers with better knowledge of how they can support mothers during pregnancy and after childbirth,” said Robinson. “It’s very important that fathers, especially young fathers, know their role when it comes to childbirth and preparing for childbirth.”
Games, resources, family-friendly activities — there’s something for everyone. And for Johnson’s kids, it’s always a hit.
“The games and fun that is at F.O.A.M. today,” said Johnsons’ oldest son, Tristan Johnson.
It’s events like this that show how F.O.A.M. is building a stronger foundation for fatherhood, one dad at a time.
