Job growth at Shreveport Regional, SPD mobile command, community projects

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux sat down this week for his regular city update, covering a wide range of topics from job creation and economic development to public safety improvements and upcoming community projects.

One of the key highlights was the announcement that SkyWest has officially moved into Shreveport Regional Airport and is already hiring. The company is expected to create 150 direct jobs, offering an average compensation package of $70,000, along with more than 300 indirect jobs associated with its aircraft maintenance and repair operations.

“They were so excited about getting started that they didn’t want to wait to plan all of that,” Arceneaux said, explaining why the company chose to launch operations before hosting a formal welcome event.

The mayor also introduced the city’s new emergency command vehicle, a major upgrade that will enable police to respond more effectively during large-scale incidents or natural disasters. The vehicle replaces equipment that was more than 25 years old.

Additionally, Arceneaux highlighted a new interactive website designed to streamline the business permitting and development process. Entrepreneurs and business owners will now be able to submit applications, access checklists, and get questions answered all in one digital space.

Wrapping up his update, the mayor encouraged residents to act as “team players” for Shreveport by focusing on the positive and supporting growth in their community. He also confirmed that while the popular “Humor and Harmony” event may not return until 2026, exciting downtown development plans are already underway.
