Thousands gather in downtown Indianapolis for pride parade

INDIANAPOLIS — Thousands of people gathered in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday for the Indy Pride parade.

The parade route ran along Massachusetts Avenue and ended near the intersection of Michigan and Delaware streets. The event began at 10 a.m. and ended around noon.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department closed portions of Massachusetts Avenue, Monument Circle, North Street and St. Clair Street on Saturday.

The pride parade is one of many events Indy Pride is holding in downtown Indianapolis this weekend. Indy Pride’s Celebration on the Circle ran from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and will be held during the same hours on Sunday. Celebration on the Circle will feature drag performances, materials from local art vendors and food from local restaurants.

Indy Pride’s two-day music series, “Word of Mouth” was also held on Friday and Saturday. The series was designed to serve as a celebration of the LGBTQ+ culture and community.
