GARFIELD COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — The wildfire that started burning in France Canyon on Thursday is currently covering 1,246 acres and is 0% contained.

It was earlier estimated to be at around 1,900 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service

said the fire “is burning in rough, inaccessible terrain.” Hot, dry, and windy conditions continue to prevail over the fire area as well. Firefighters had to be shuttled via helicopter to the area due to these conditions.

The firefighters are primarily focusing on slowing the spread of the fire at its southern flank, in order to protect the community of Bryce Woodlands. There are currently no evacuations in place, but the community is on high alert.

No additional communities or structures are threatened at this time.
