Chicago city pools open June 21: Everything you need to know

CHICAGO (WGN) — Summer is heating up, and if you’re looking for a spot to cool off, unwind or splash around, Chicago city pools are ready to welcome you.

Chicago’s outdoor pools will open for the season on June 21 and stay open until just before the CPS school year begins in August.

In addition to the city’s beaches, the Chicago Park District operates 50 outdoor pools nearly 30 indoor pools across the city.

Many of the facilities include accessibility features such as ADA-compliant stairs, pool lifts and zero-depth entries so everyone can enjoy a safe swim.

The district offers a one-month membership for $25, a three-month membership for $42 or single-day passes that can be bought at the pools daily.

The pool rules are as follows:

• Obey the lifeguards and follow pool rules. They are there for your safety.
• All persons are required to shower before entering the pool area.
• Food and drink are not permitted in the pool area.
• No smoking allowed in the pool area.
• Clean swimwear is required.
• No running allowed on pool deck.
• Only clean footwear, baby strollers, or wheelchairs are allowed in the pool area. Persons in street clothes and street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck.
• Persons with open wounds, excessive sunburn, abrasions that have not healed, or bandages of any kind cannot be allowed in the water.
• Except during Park District classes, SCUBA gear is not allowed in the pool.
• No flotation devices may be used in the pool.
• Family Swim Parents/Guardians must accompany children in the water.
• Children 8 and under, who are not at least 8″ taller than the shallow end must be accompanied by an adult.
