9-year-old girl critically injured, 34-year-old man taken into custody after car crash Sunday morning in West Town: CPD

CHICAGO — A 9-year-old girl was critically injured and a 34-year-old man was taken into custody after a car crash Sunday morning in West Town, according to Chicago police.

The man taken into custody and two other people were injured in the crash, all listed in good or stable condition, police say.

According to police, the 34-year-old man was driving south in a Lexus SUV in the 1000 block of North Western Avenue between 10:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday when he hit a Lexus sedan going east on Thomas Street. The SUV then hit three unoccupied parked vehicles on N. Western Ave.

Three occupants in the SUV reported injuries, police say, including a 9-year-old girl who was taken to an area hospital and initially listed in critical condition with multiple fractures to the head, face and arm.

Additionally, police say the driver of the SUV sustained bruising to the body and a 13-year-old girl riding in the SUV sustained lacerations to the face. Both were taken to an area hospital in good/stable condition.

One passenger in the Lexus sedan, an 11-year-old girl, sustained minor head injuries and was taken to an area hospital in good condition, according to police.

Police say the 34-year-old driver of the SUV was taken into custody and issued nine citations, with pending charges. The driver of the sedan was issued one citation.
