INDIANAPOLIS — One person was killed in a crash involving a vehicle and a residence on the near northwest side of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 2700 block of Pixel Drive — which is located just off Lafayette Road — around 3:14 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a crash involving a vehicle and a residence.
IMPD confirmed that its officers also found an adult male victim who was struck and critically injured by the driver involved in the crash. Medics transported the victim from the scene to an area hospital, but he ultimately did not survive his injuries.
Police reported that the driver involved in the crash called 911 to report the incident, remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. The driver will also be submitted to a blood draw, as is standard procedure for all of IMPD’s fatal crash investigations.
Detectives believe the driver and victim knew each other, though police currently think the crash was truly an accident and the driver did not have ill intentions.
“This is just disappointing and sad for the driver of the vehicle, and we feel for the victim’s family and that driver,” IMPD public information officer Tommy Thompson said during a media briefing. “From what we’ve gathered so far, investigators believe that this is just truly, truly a sad accident. And truly that, just an accident. Unfortunately, it took a life.”
One of the Indianapolis Fire Department’s structure collapse teams was called to the scene. Crews examined the structure the driver ran into, and confirmed the building was structurally sound.
Maintenance crews also responded to the residence to start making repairs.
