Two Dead After Head-On Crash on State Road 46 in Monroe County

Update:

Two people were killed Friday evening in a head-on collision on State Road 46 just east of Stinesville Road, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the crash at 5:18 p.m. and found two vehicles in the roadway that had collided head-on. One driver, a resident of Spencer, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver, a 62-year-old from Gosport, Indiana, was seriously injured, had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was flown by IU Health Lifeline helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where they later died from their injuries.

As of 7:55 p.m., the scene remained active as deputies directed traffic during cleanup and crash reconstruction efforts.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office is working to notify the victims’ next of kin. No further identifying information has been released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting agencies included the Ellettsville Police Department, Ellettsville Fire Department, Bean Blossom Township/Stinesville Fire Department, IU Health Lifeline, Owen County EMS, and the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — June 13, 2025 — One person was killed and another seriously injured Friday evening in a head-on collision on State Road 46, just east of Stinesville Road, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the scene at 5:18 p.m. and found two vehicles that had collided head-on in the roadway. One driver, a resident of Spencer, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver, from Gosport, suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from their vehicle.

The extricated but injured driver was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by IU Health Lifeline helicopter.

As of 7:55 p.m., crews remained on the scene to clean up debris and conduct crash reconstruction. Deputies continued directing traffic in the area.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office is working to notify the deceased driver’s next of kin. No further identifying information has been released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Agencies assisting at the scene included the Ellettsville Police Department, Ellettsville Fire Department, Bean Blossom Township/Stinesville Fire Department, IU Health Lifeline, Owen County EMS, and the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.
