ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Demetrius Locke, 18, on charges of illegally possessing a firearm, among others.
On June 12, around 6 p.m., officers were patrolling in the area of Auburn and Avon Streets when they saw a Nissan Altima run a stop sign. When authorities approached the car after pulling it over, they smelled raw cannabis coming from the vehicle.
Officials searched the vehicle and found cannabis, a loaded handgun along with cash.
Locke, an occupant of the car, admitted to police that he sells cannabis, and the pistol was his, court records show. He also told authorities that he is a member of a gang.
Locke is charged with possession of a firearm without a FOID, possession of a firearm in a vehicle while being a gang member and manufacturing and delivering cannabis.
He was granted pretrial release on June 13.
