Shreveport’s ‘No Kings’ rally protests President Trump’s policies, parade

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Protesters across the nation are set to rally on June 14th to oppose the policies of President Donald Trump, which coincides with Flag Day, Trump’s U.S. Military Parade for the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, and his 79th birthday.

The Army’s anniversary celebration includes concerts, fireworks, fitness competitions, and displays, costing an estimated $25 million to $45 million. The ‘No Kings‘ nationwide rally is a display of defiance to “reject authoritarianism,” according to the organizers, 50501.

“The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it. On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t – to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”

The Shreveport “No Kings” protest is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is organized by the Shreveport DSA, a chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Their chapter is scheduled to host a public meeting to discuss their upcoming projects from noon to 2 p.m. outside the Caddo Parish Courthouse, located at 501 Texas Street in downtown Shreveport.

A core principle behind all NO KINGS events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events,” underscores the 50501 Movement.

5051 Movement encourages protestors to bring their American flag to remind America to “reclaim this symbol and remind the world that the freedom we stand for is freedom for all.”

According to the Shreveport DSA group, more than 75 residents are registered to attend.
