GUNNISON, Utah (ABC4) — A semi-truck hauling turkeys rolled over in rural Sanpete County early Friday morning.
Just after 5 a.m., crews responded to a semi-truck hauling turkeys that was traveling northbound on US-89. Police say the semi was traveling too fast while making a right turn onto SR-28 in Gunnison.
The truck was on its side and blocking all lanes when crews arrived. No one was injured during the incident; however, police say a number of turkeys were affected.
Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol confirmed a number of turkeys were spilled onto the roadway. Officials have been on scene cleaning the area and expect the road to be reopened soon.
Sanpete County has long been known as a staple for the turkey and poultry industry in Utah. Following WWII, thanks to a business co-operative, poultry farms near Gunnison quickly transformed Utah into an exporter of turkeys, chicken, and eggs.
