NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans city council declared on Thursday, June 12 that Aug. 29, the date Hurricane Katrina made landfall, will be a holiday for city workers for this year. It marks the 20th anniversary of Katrina.
Katrina caused over a thousand deaths and billions of dollars in damages to both Louisiana and Mississippi.
