The New Orleans Privateers have hired Belhaven’s Andrew Gipson to serve as the new head baseball coach.
He spent the past two seasons with the Blazers, compiling a 59-32 record and led Belhaven to a Division III Super Regional this year. Gipson is no stranger to the Southland Conference, as he spent seven seasons with Southeastern serving in a number of roles including recruiting coordinator, pitching coach and associate head coach. The Lions made three NCAA regional appearances during his tenure in Hammond.
“A lot of thought and time went into this process, and I’m grateful that we got this to the finish line. It’s never easy to leave your alma mater and a place as special as Belhaven, but I feel this strongly about this opportunity and the success that we can have here on the Lakefront,” Gipson said in a statement released by UNO. “This is a special place with people who care deeply about the success of this baseball program. I’m eager to prove them right. We will put a product on the field that this city, this university, and our fan base will rally around. I can’t wait to get started.”
Gipson replaces Dax Norris, who led UNO to the Southland Conference championship series this year. Norris and UNO mutually agreed to part ways following the season.
