CHICAGO — Members of the Chicago Police Department’s SWAT team were called to an apartment complex on the city’s Far South Side.

A heavy police presence was spotted at the Altgeld Gardens apartments in Riverdale on Thursday morning.

Officers have not said why they were called to the scene, but police confirmed that the SWAT team had been called to the area for assistance.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 7:45 a.m. when officers could be seen in two different areas of the complex.

In one area near a Chicago Public Library building along South Ellis Avenue, officers appeared to have positioned themselves around a building while in another area near East 130th Place and South Evans Avenue, officers could be seen near a car that had partially driven up onto the curb.

Police have not yet confirmed if the scenes are connected.

Currently, it is unclear what sparked the situations or what officers are searching for.
